Geologist
/ Geophysicist
At CFOL, Geologists
and Geophysicists play a key role in
generating oil and gas prospects that will lead
to the drilling of economic wells. More specifically,
a Geologist and Geophysicist may be responsible
for performing the following functions:
- Document prospects by
mapping of areas using pertinent geologic
and geophysical data in order to fully document
the existence of geologic anomalies that may
contain oil or gas.
- Recommend crown and
freehold leases that should be acquired in
the area where prospects have been generated.
- Recommend acquisitions
of pertinent geologic or geophysical data
required in order to fully document an exploration
or development project.
- Recommend the drilling
of exploratory and development wells on approved
prospects in order to determine the presence
of oil or gas in commercial and economic quantities.
- Evaluate the geological
or geophysical information generated from
the drilling of oil or gas exploratory and
development wells and recommend action to
be taken.
- Assist in the development
of the annual business plan.
- Maintain and develop
an accurate and current electronic database,
geological or geophysical based on their specific
speciality.
- Communicate and coordinate
activities within the department.
- Work with other departments
to ensure processes are efficient and meet
internal standards.
- Keep informed of other
industry activity within their areas of responsibility
and communicate this pertinent activity to
management and other affected departments.
- Constantly improve the
level of technical excellence within their
professional field in order to ensure that
the best and most cost-effective technical
ideas and methods are being used.
Geologists and Geophysicists
require a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate
Science. At CFOL experience in both exploration
and development is considered an asset to perform
at the required level of competency. Geologists
and Geophysicists must also be skilled in taking
initiative, creative thinking, achieving positive
economic results, data analysis, problem solving,
decision-making, planning, organizing, and building
relationships.
A Geologist or Geophysicist
has to work closely with other team members
in both an office and field situation. The position
normally requires that they be on-call or attend
to situations that occur outside of regular
office hours. |
